New concern for Zika virus causing microcephaly is emerging from Brazil. This condition has a profound effect on infants causing developmental delays and even early death due to smaller than average head size.
The government of Brazil has advised caution with becoming pregnant until more knowledge is gained. There has been a surge in new cases this year with approximately 2,700 cases diagnosed which is an increase up from 900 last year.
The Zika virus is spread through an infected insect bite and causes flu like symptoms in the mothers and patients.
